I wanted to write my first travel guide on one of my favorite trips I’ve ever been on…La Jolla/Del Mar/San Diego, CA. Ryan and I went for our “babymoon” and it was ahhhhmazing! It was such a relaxing trip full of good food, beautiful scenery, and adventure. Everything below is on the “Katelyn’s Kravings” list!! If you have any questions on anything, just let me know.

The Resort:

The Lodge Torrey Pines – it did not disappoint! We upgraded to a Palisade Room, and it was totally worth it. These rooms come with a fireplace, which was so nice on a chilly evening or morning, and an amazing view of the 18th green and the ocean. It’s seriously the coziest lodge, and you are greeted by men in kilts! Just a note- I wouldn’t say this resort is very kid friendly, we didn’t see one kid while we were there and I asked and they let me know kids are allowed, but the main “family weekend” is 4th of July.

The Transportation:

The Lodge is just about 20 minutes from the San Diego airport, and we took a shuttle that was only $20, as we did not need to rent a car for this trip. The Lodge has complimentary Audi car rides within 5 miles of the hotel, which includes La Jolla and Del Mar. We took advantage of this and booked rides with the concierge. The drivers were so friendly and had the best restaurant/bar recommendations.

The Restaurants:

The Grill at the Lodge – Because of the time change we were up every morning by at least 6am. We would head down to the Grill at the Lodge and eat breakfast outside under a heat lamp and watch golfers tee off. It was really reasonable and the food was outstanding. The french toast and corn beef hash were favorites

Jake’s Del Mar – This restaurant is loud, laid back, and children are welcome. There is indoor and outdoor seating, plus a bar area with TVs. The restaurant overlooks the beach and ocean. Everything we ordered was amazing, especially the calamari. Tip: Make a reservation, and ask for a seat overlooking the ocean at sunset. It’s perfect! (our driver from the hotel set all of this up for us)

Eddie V’s – The BEST dessert!! We actually only had dessert here and OMG! We split the dark chocolate and toffee s’mores with topped with toasted vanilla bean marshmallow..I still think about this haha, maybe because I was pregnant, but man, might be the best dessert I’ve ever had!

George’s at the Cove – Must sit outside for the views! We had appetizers here before our dessert at Eddie V’s, and while it was really good, it just wasn’t my favorite from the trip. I would probably pop in for a drink and the views next time, but skip a meal.

A.R. Valentine at the Lodge We sat outside and had drinks and appetizers a few times at A.R. Valentine and that was more casual, as dinner inside at this restaurant is a little stuffy for our liking. The trail mix they have out on the tables is soooo good! Our server surprised us with a dessert plate of donuts (bc/ it was national donut day) that said “Congrats on Baby” written in chocolate on the plate…I mean I couldn’t ask for anything better!

La Jolla Brewing Company – Great beer (according to Ryan) and such a fun atmosphere. It’s right in downtown La Jolla and a great spot to have a drink at before dinner. We watched an NBA playoff game here too.

Herringbone – one word: cinnamon roll! So, so good! Everything else we had was really good too, and the atmosphere is seriously the cutest! I vote it best brunch spot!

For Fun:

Surf at La Jolla Shores – The beach was happening on a Saturday morning! I had to sit surfing out, being pregnant, but Ryan rented a bored and wet suit from Surf Diva and attempted to surf. They also offer lessons.

Hike the Torrey Pines State Park & Beach (half mile walk from the Lodge) – there are 8 miles of hiking and trails go all the way down to the ocean.

Tennis & Golf at the Lodge – Ryan played both the North & South courses while we were there, and I mean I think the Torrey Pines name speaks for itself when it comes to golf.

Spa at the Lodge – I had a facial and massage and they were wonderful. I also got an express manicure, and the manicurist told me she would leave the door unlocked in the evenings if I ever wanted to come down and get some oils or lotions for my hands, to just help myself!

Shopping in La Jolla – one late morning we went to downtown La Jolla, grabbed a Starbucks and browsed some of the shops and galleries.

Before we arrived I booked a photographer to take maternity pictures while we were out there. She was so good, like genius! Below are some of the pictures she took of us at The Lodge and the Torrey Pines State Beach. Photo Cred: Brogen Jessup
